The George has been voted one of the top 20 City Hotels in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific in the prestigious Travel + Leisure World’s Best Hotels Survey 2009. These annual awards give Travel +Leisure readers the opportunity to select their favourite hotels, spas, airlines, cruise lines, outfitters, cities and islands around the world.
Out of Travel + Leisure’s list of Top 500 places, The George was voted # 2 in NZ 2009 and # 1 in the South Island in the new category of the Top 20 City Hotels in Australia, New Zealand. The George has a history of Travel + Leisure Awards and was ranked # 4 in NZ 2008.
Travel + Leisure is a highly regarded international magazine with a discerning readership of close to one million. Bruce Garrett, The George’s General Manager, was thrilled with the accolade, made possible by the votes of readers who have experienced The George’s hospitality.
Bruce credits The George’s ability to offer a personalised stay and attentive service with its one-one staff to guest ratio, and its mission statement, “A passion to exceed guests’ expectations by providing a unique, personal and memorable experience” as crucial factors that influence the outcome of the awards.
Another key to its success is the ongoing commitment to continuing development of the Hotel, with Bruce Garrett acknowledging the benchmark is continually moving in the luxury market. Currently he is driving The George’s refurbishment programme, which has seen most recently the re-launch of its signature restaurant in November 2008 and is due to embark on the completion of its rooms’ refurbishment in August 2009. The George looks forward to welcoming guests to a new level of comfort when it reopens its rooms in September 2009.
