For the 3rd year in a row The George’s signature restaurant, Pescatore, has been rated the top Christchurch restaurant in the Cuisine Restaurant of the Year Awards and is one of the top four restaurants in the South Island.
Of the 5-star restaurants identified in the Cuisine ROTY awards 2012, all 5 are located in Auckland. Pescatore is proud to be one of the 4 highest rated South Island restaurants that each received 4.5 stars out of 5, giving The George an equal rating to Pegasus Bay which is to be congratulated for winning the award for its category.
Overall this places Pescatore in the top 24 restaurants in New Zealand. The Cuisine website refers to Pescatore as “… perhaps Christchurch’s most daring and innovative restaurant – daring because in a city that retains a conservative heart, Pescatore is happy to push the boundaries”. It also makes mention of the wine list and service “An extensive list of New Zealand and overseas wines complements a menu that highlights local produce at every opportunity, while service throughout is attentive, personable and knowledgeable”.
Head judge Kerry Tyack made specific mention to Pescatore and its corned duck entrée, “Pescatore in Christchurch impressed us with its corned duck, raspberry vinegar marshmallow, duck crackling and watercress”. While this dish is no longer on the menu to celebrate its success Pescatore will reinstate the corned duck for two weeks beginning 14 August for the special price of $22.
