World Travel Awards 2012
The George is delighted to have been voted New Zealand’s Leading Boutique Hotel in the World Travel Awards, 2012. The awards are voted for by travel and tourism professionals worldwide and the accolade recognises the commitment to excellence The George has demonstrated in the last twelve months. As always the rivalry for this award is challenging with outstanding contenders such as Huka Lodge, Eichardts and The Spire. Nonetheless, The George has previously received the honour five times over the last six years.
Furthermore, The George was once again nominated for Australasia’s leading boutique hotel 2012, a title it was awarded in 2010. This year’s ceremony for the World Travel Awards Asia, Australasia & Indian Ocean will be held at InterContinental Singapore and will be attended by an audience of the industry’s leading luminaries and international media. Such is the importance of the event, The George’s General Manager, Bruce Garrett, attended the black tie gala dinner to receive the award in person.
The George was also named #1 City Hotel in New Zealand in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Hotels Awards 2012. As such, Mr Garrett is gratified to know that despite the Canterbury earthquakes, The George’s team have been able to continue delivering a world class hotel experience to its guests and that it still has support from the travel industry which can only be positive for Christchurch.
