Our dedication to environmental sustainability and community engagement.

As active members of both the local and global communities, we recognise the influence our actions have on our surroundings and the broader environment.  Achieving an EnviroGold rating from Qualmark underscores our unwavering commitment to sustainability.  Our guiding philosophy is encapsulated in the term “Caring Luxury.”

The George takes pride in being a signatory to the Tourism Industry Aotearoa Sustainability Commitment.  Aligned with our Caring Luxury ethos, this commitment is structured around four pillars: Economic Resilience, Visitor Satisfaction, Community and Environment.

Our comprehensive Caring Luxury program encompasses initiatives across all these pillars.  Through multiple actions and decisions, we fulfill the 12 individual commitments; aiming to deliver an exceptional guest experience, contribute value to our local community, foster economic resilience, and minimize our impact on the natural environment.

Several of our initiatives have evolved organically, such as our longstanding support for various charitable organisations.  Others stem from our dedication to preserving what we cherish.  For instance, our continuous commitment to minimising our environmental impact has prompted both management and staff to develop numerous initiatives, ensuring our contribution to maintaining New Zealand’s clean and green reputation.

In addition to our renowned New Zealand art collection, The George has long been a proud supporter of local artists.  What might be less apparent is our ongoing effort to procure local products and engage the expertise of local craftspeople for our furniture and refurbishments.

Our attention is directed towards achieving sustained financial performance and resilience in the long term.

We are committed to making investments that create value, foster opportunities, and promote sustainable practices.

We embrace innovation to address challenges, pioneer novel approaches, and enhance productivity.

Our goal is to consistently meet or surpass the expectations of our visitors.

We integrate the culture and heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand into our offerings, providing a distinctive and authentic visitor experience.

As part of this commitment, we actively engage with visitors in discussions on how to be responsible travelers within the country.

We strive to attract, support, and develop the workforce necessary for our flourishing and success.

We actively and positively engage with the communities where we operate, assuming a leadership role to advocate for causes that are important to the community.

We maintain socially and environmentally sustainable supply chains.

We contribute to protecting and enhancing Aotearoa New Zealand’s environment, including water, biodiversity, landscapes and clean air.

We take responsibility for the entire life cycle of the products and services we use, with the ultimate goal of eliminating associated waste.

We take immediate action to contribute to Aotearoa New Zealand’s transition to a net-zero carbon economy.
