The George takes pride in being a signatory to the Tourism Industry Aotearoa Sustainability Commitment. Â Aligned with our Caring Luxury ethos, this commitment is structured around four pillars: Economic Resilience, Visitor Satisfaction, Community and Environment.
Our comprehensive Caring Luxury program encompasses initiatives across all these pillars. Â Through multiple actions and decisions, we fulfill the 12 individual commitments; aiming to deliver an exceptional guest experience, contribute value to our local community, foster economic resilience, and minimize our impact on the natural environment.
Several of our initiatives have evolved organically, such as our longstanding support for various charitable organisations.  Others stem from our dedication to preserving what we cherish.  For instance, our continuous commitment to minimising our environmental impact has prompted both management and staff to develop numerous initiatives, ensuring our contribution to maintaining New Zealand’s clean and green reputation. In 2023 we partnered with Weeva to measure our emissions and help to track data across the 4 C’s of Conservation, Community, culture and Commerce. See the results in this case study carried out by Weeva in June 2024.
In addition to our renowned New Zealand art collection, The George has long been a proud supporter of local artists. Â What might be less apparent is our ongoing effort to procure local products and engage the expertise of local craftspeople for our furniture and refurbishments.
