Executive Chef Ryan McKenzie has crafted a stunning five course menu that pays homage to seasonal New Zealand produce, expertly paired with a curated selection of premium sake from Zenkuro – New Zealand’s only sake brewery.
Based in Queenstown, Zenkuro creates small-batch, award-winning sake using traditional Japanese methods, pure alpine water, and top-quality rice. The result is a collection of sakes known for their purity, depth, and elegance – the perfect companion to this unique culinary journey.
The menu features five courses, each paired with a different Zenkuro sake, highlighting the harmony between local ingredients and Japanese craftsmanship.

This July, 50 Bistro invites you to warm up with Save Our Souls Sagrantino. This medium-bodied wine offers enticing aromas and flavors of star anise, dark berries, plums, cherries, black olives, and dried tea leaves, making it the perfect choice for the season.
Food Pairing Suggestion:
Veal Ossobuco with confit garlic mash, slow-roast carrots, chermoula, and red wine jus.
The wine’s rich, bright fruit stands up beautifully to the creamy confit garlic mash. Its sweet spice notes and blood orange-like acidity perfectly complement the roasted carrots and the red wine jus. Given that Ossobuco is a classic Italian dish and Sagrantino originates from Umbria in southern Italy, this pairing offers an authentic and harmonious dining experience.

Helpful, friendly staff, and once we settled into our room, we were offered a complimentary juice, softdrink, or barista coffee via room service. Location is fantastic as the park and walk to botanical gardens was easily accessible. Free parking is also a bonus for us as we paid up to $40 at other city hotels. The best aspect of our stay was the staff – all seem happy and obviously enjoy working at The George.
